Police investigating the use of an Air Tag tracking device – Chicago Tribune

The following items were taken from area police department reports and news releases. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt.

Burglary

Four catalytic converters were cut loose and stolen from safety and security minivans in a fenced lot at Superior Ambulance, 665 N. Walnut St., at about 1 a.m. April 28. Security video shows a dark green jeep and two offenders stealing the four catalytic converters.

Criminal defacement

An unknown person wrote on an Elmhurst Park District display board near the Illinois Prairie Path at Monterey Avenue and Thomas Street between April 27 and May 1.

An unknown suspect spray painted several areas of the Addison Avenue parking deck, 149 N. Addison Ave., May 3 and May 4.

Deceptive practice

A resident reported April 26 that after he received a letter from a company requesting him to perform services for the company as a mystery shopper, he received a check and was told to purchase gift cards for which he would be compensated. The check did not clear and he was out the money spent on gift cards.

Drugs

Jason Wilson, 41, of the 600 block of North Kramer Avenue, Lombard, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal trespass to land at 2:30 p.m. April 29.

Carlos Arias, 38, of the 500 block of North West Avenue, Elmhurst, was cited for driving with expired registration, driving without insurance and unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver at 2:20 p.m. April 30.

Ulysses Rodriguez, 23,, of the 4200 block of Chesapeake Drive, Aurora, was cited for driving without insurance, driving with illegally tinted windows and possession of cannabis by a driver at 11:27 p.m. April 30.

In the same incident, Ismael Rivera, 23, of the 3500 block of East Avenue, Berwyn, was cited for possession of cannabis.

Amanda Lopez, 24, of the 500 block of North Columbine Avenue, Lombard, was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, illegal transport of cannabis by a driver, improper lighting, improper lane use and failure to wear a seat belt at 8:36 p.m. May 2.

DUI

Posha Hughes, 37, of the 700 block of North Central Avenue, Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence, illegal stopping in the roadway and illegal transport of open alcohol at 7:48 p.m. May 3.

Electronic tracking

Police are investigating a report of a suspect who admitted placing an electronic tracking device, an “Air Tag,” in a woman’s vehicle, placed there between March 31 and May 2.

Identity theft

A resident reported on April 19 that an unknown person used his information to file a tax return.

A resident reported unauthorized transactions were made on her US Bank account between April 19 and April 28.

A resident reported receiving an email from Bank of America regarding a supposedly approved — but unauthorized — balance transfer on April 30. The transfer was stopped with no money lost.

A resident reported unauthorized purchases on her debit card on May 1 and May 2 after she provided information in response to what she thought was a text message from UPS.

Suspicious circumstances

A resident in the 300 block of East Webster Avenue reported that between Oct. 1 and April 29 she has found shards of glass on her property and on her driveway which have caused flat tires on her vehicles.

Theft

A Samsung Galaxy cellphone was reported taken from a table in Sky Zone, 325 W. Lake St., after it was left on the table near the basketball courts between 10:15 p.m. and 11 p.m. April 29.

A witness reported seeing a victim’s wallet being removed from his rolling walker in Lexington Square of Elmhurst, 400 W. Butterfield Rd., between April 28 and May 2. The victim later stated he was missing money from the wallet. Police are investigating.

Theft by deception

A victim reported she stopped to assist a motorist on the side of the road near York Street and Interstate 290. An unknown male suspect approached her vehicle and was attempting to sell jewelry to the victim. The victim paid for a large gold chain and two rings. The victim drove off but was followed by the suspect to a parking lot where the suspect again approached her vehicle and requested more money. The victim did not provide any more money and the suspect left the area in an unknown direction. Reported at 6:07 p.m. April 28.

Traffic violations

Felix Trejo, 58, of the 4900 block of South Leamington Avenue, Chicago, was charged with driving without a valid driver’s license, failure to wear a seat belt and unlawful use of an electronic communication device at 10:06 a.m. April 30.

Juan Tlalpachito, 30, of the 2400 block of South St. Louis Avenue, Chicago, was charged with driving without a valid driver’s license and driving with illegally tinted windows at 2:34 a.m. May 2.

Pablo Gonzalez, 31, of the 3800 block of North Central Avenue, Brownsville, Texas, was charged with driving without a valid driver’s license, illegal transport of open alcohol and driving without valid registration at 8:15 p.m. May 3.

Weapon

Johnny Manning, 32, of the 300 block of Park Court, Bellwood, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and possession of ammunition without a firearm owners identification card at 2:57 a.m. May 1.
